San Clemente surfers led by Sheri Crummer push to elevate women’s surfing, noting decades of lesser waves and respect. A fundraising drive begun November 15 aims to build a large archive of women’s surfing contributions to preserve and highlight their history.
The History of Women's Surfing project aims to launch by December as funds exceed 2200 dollars on Indiegogo. The online archive will collect stories of female surfers from across decades and cultures under The Inspire Initiative to empower women.
The Michelena family filed an Orange County Superior Court suit on November 18 alleging negligent design of the Ralphs parking lot at 903 S El Camino Real contributed to the death of Paul Michelena, 46, who was struck Oct. 11, 2018 while walking with his 11 year old daughter. The suit targets the city for lacking signals, signs, markings or warning devices about dangerous conditions in the lot.
Contention rises in south Orange County over replacing San Clemente’s 73 bed acute care hospital with a larger outpatient center without an ER. San Clemente leaders weigh a resolution opposing closure as supporters cite broader access to services. Memorial Care unveiled the plan to expand to 103 000 square feet, drawing concerns from Orange County Fire Authority about longer ambulance transport times and impact on other ER wait times.
