Edison to lay off 600 at San Onofre plant in two months
Southern California Edison will begin laying off 600 non union workers at the San Onofre nuclear plant as it closes permanently. The first wave of 1,100 expected layoffs reduces the 1,500 staff with only about 400 remaining during decommissioning that could take years. Later, Casa Romantica hires Berenika Schmitz as executive director, a Harvard and Oxford educated pianist and arts administrator. She has held roles at Dana Point Symphony and Kennedy Center program, among others. The San Clemente Historical Society invites the public to a quarterly meeting with John Ciampa discussing tax breaks for historic buildings and preservation agreements. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Community Center on Avenida Del Mar.
