Sewage spill closes part of Mariposa Beach in Orange County
County health officials closed a 600 foot stretch of ocean off Mariposa Beach after a sewage overflow from a San Clemente apartment complex. City workers halted the flow within four minutes but sewage entered the storm drain. A separate advisory cited bacteria increases at Poche Beach, affecting 1000 feet of shoreline. Up to 65 gallons may have reached the ocean via a storm drain channel. Ocean sampling at Mariposa begins Wednesday with two clean readings required before reopening.
