Falcons and hawks patrol Prima Deshecha to deter seagulls

Orange County Landfills runs an experiment using a falcon named Falstaff and a Harris hawk named Boris to harass seagulls at Prima Deshecha Landfill. Master falconer Adam Chavez from San Juan Capistrano trains the birds to target various birds over the waste site. Hundreds of seagulls from nearby beaches circle the area, but rarely land, as the birds maintain a holding pattern since late January.

Library clocks in San Clemente tower finally in sync

Orange County replaces three-decade-old San Clemente Library tower clocks with a state-of-the-art GPS synchronized system at a cost of 10,738 dollars. County facilities manager Robert Genzel and TickTockTony owner Tony Baker say the new mechanism ensures accurate, automatic time changes for daylight saving.

Locals Dominate Huntington Beach Western Surfing event

Locals packed Huntington Beach Pier for the Western Surfing Association tour stop with 360 surfers braving wind. Cody Canzoneri finished second in open men's shortboard and longboard, while Kevin Schulz from San Clemente won open shortboard and was second in Boys Under 18.
