Peter Brierly, 44, was arrested in his driveway after a neighbor saw his van with headlights on and passed out behind the wheel at 11 p.m. Friday. Deputies responded to a report of a man unable to wake him, leading to the DUI arrest. In a separate incident, another San Clemente man was taken into custody Friday night amid complaints of loud music on West Palizada.
Sheriff’s office reports David Wells, 33, was found in possession of a syringe and arrested on parole violation charges. Also listed are multiple calls: harassment at a senior center, a gas line cut at Hobie Sports, theft from a tool shed, a home burglary, jewelry loss, a transient disturbance, vehicle damage and hit and run, scavenger hunt door knocks, a security guard incident, and a traffic stop with warrants totaling 22500 and a no-bail assault warrant.
A warm spell drew crowds to the beaches with 80 degree air and 60 degree seas. Surfers wore wetsuits while some ventured bare and the forecast calls for low clouds and fog along the coast. Surf is minimal at 1 to 2 feet though San Onofre offers light fun for long boards. Winds shift to southwest in the afternoon, tides range from 0.8 to 3.0, and diving improves as surf wanes.
