Jack Albright a six month theft convict swallowed iodine from a similar bottle mistaken for cough medicine in the county jail. Sheriff Tobin alerted by the incident, Captain Crowther and County Physician Berrey responded, removing him from danger and reporting he began eating again but remained ill from the exposure.
The county school controversy ended as Prof. T. P. Huff received payment for his duties as Elmendorf principal. The dispute, lasting about a year and reaching the Supreme Court, concluded after the county superintendent signed the agreement two weeks earlier. Huff now teaches in Atascosa, eighteen miles south of San Antonio. An injunction related to the case remains unresolved.
Washington Nov 16 Brigadier General J C Breckenridge Inspector General of the army releases annual reports to the Secretary of War and General Miles. He notes Captain Sibley Texas reports light standard cavalry horses and a strained Texas horse market. He commends officers and soldiers for discipline and efficiency and outlines reforms in pay promotion and noncommissioned ranks. He also questions civil service barriers for honored discharged soldiers. The inspectors praise post exchanges but note effects of anti beer laws on morale and discipline.
Washington November 16 reports the President appointed Herbert H. Pierce of Massachusetts as third assistant secretary of State. The move expands the department leadership as Pierce takes the post in the current administration.
Chief Desmond reports a brief confession from the Montana train robber suspect who admits being Ben Kilpatrick son of Dan Kilpatrick. The outlaw was linked to the Carver gang, raised near Paint Rock Texas, as Sheriff Crawford and County Attorney Pray travel from Chateau Montana to observe the case in St Louis.
A Northern Central line express was wrecked by dynamite near Black Ridge north of Yorktown. Passengers were shocked but unharmed as three coaches derailed fifteen feet from the rails and a 2.5 foot rail fragment was hurled free. The blast aimed to enable robbery.
Leon Iowa Nov 16 Dr J H Crofford proprietor of Crofford san itarium found guilty of murder in the second degree for causing the death of Miss Maud Stone a wealthy young inmate of the institution.
San Francisco November 16. Spectators called the Jeffries Ruhlin title bout disappointing after Billy Madden stopped the contest in the fifth round to spare Ruhlin worse punishment. Corbett doubted the sponge and urged the fight continue. Madden said he halted to protect Ruhlin who was groggy but not badly punished. Jeffries claimed Ruhlin was scared from the start and would not have lasted two more rounds.
Austin residents report I C L Blunt ex health officer W F Blunt is improving at Lockhart and has recuperated enough to plan hunting trips. His son says his father's health is nearly restored after resignation due to illness.
The Texas railroad commission informed F. B. Dunlap, general freight agent for Sunset-Central, that Emporia and Gulf, Texas and Northeastern, San Jacinto and Southern, Angelina and Nueces River, Texas and Louisiana, and Jefferson and Northwestern railways are regarded as tram or logging roads.
In the Supreme Court at Washington the City of Austin has submitted the case against the Old Water Company. Judge B. Fisher notes the dispute involves about 75 000 dollars in hydrant rental judgments awarded to the Old Water Company against the city.
The Ben Hur temple of the Ancient Order of Shriners held a well attended meeting in Austin on Sunday night with members from various Texas lodges present. Sigmund Rabe of San Antonio was among those initiated.
London reports severe frost and dense fog from November 16 with 12 to 20 degree temperatures. Rail traffic delayed and a London Chapman and Dover line collision injuring seventeen. Dr. W. P. Phillips of the University of Texas concludes from an exploratory tour in St. Joe Montague county that large quantities of asphaltum exist and streets paved with the material are in excellent condition. He plans a full report after analysis and notes other valuable minerals in the area.

Judge Hansey lay sentenced Andrew M. Lawrence managing editor and H S Canfield reporter of WR Hearst's Chicago American to forty and thirty days in county jail for contempt of court.
New York dispatch reports London coverage of the colonial office report on concentration camps in South Africa. Unionist papers hail England's history while pro-Boer journals call the disclosures criminal and utter.
The Pecos River Railroad company paid the Comptroller taxes totaling $1.17, equal to one percent of $116.64 gross passenger earnings for the quarter ending September 30.
State Purchasing Agent Dodge awarded to G. A. Stowers Furniture Co of San Antonio a contract to furnish 300 iron bedsteads for the State Insane asylum at seven dollars seventy five cents each.

In Talhilah La May 16 J H Carson deputy sheriff was killed today while attempting to arrest bridge laborer Delee on the V B and P railroad. Delee had earlier shot and wounded two men Sasha Russell and Wright. Delee jailed as intense excitement spreads through the town.
The Schley court of inquiry held only one session and adjourned at 12:30 for the day. The court will strive to finish its work a short time before Congress convenes.
A fire at a boarding house in New Haven caused emergency response as residents escaped. It details a rescue of Eugene Kyle Winslow of Panxsutawney Pennsylvania from a fifth story window and notes the blaze occurred shortly before midday on November 16.
