A woman’s body in advanced decomposition washed ashore at Chandeleur island and was buried by fishermen. It is believed to be a member of the Paul Jones yacht party that sailed from New Orleans for Pensacola weeks ago and was lost after leaving the Mississippi mouth. The naptha tank explosion is suspected. wreckage was minimal and no other bodies recovered until this grisly find.
Dallas business leaders urged the governor to sign the Texas Trunk extension bill at a mass meeting in the Commercial club rooms. A committee was named to carry resolutions to Austin. The Dallas grand jury, after two weeks of bribery probes, adjourned without indictments.
In Chattanooga on May 6, Dave Winston a plumber and a black helper entered a main egg shaped sewer six six and a half feet wide to repair it. A sudden cloudburst rushed water through the tunnel washing them away. Winston was rescued near death while the helper was drowned.
Washington May 6. A controversy between customs officers and the Morgan line of the Southern Pacific railway concerns compliance with laws on passenger supervision and anti smuggling. Washington May 6 The War Department believes from President Schurman that the end of the Filipino insurrection is near but holds it unwise to instruct Major General Otis to pursue a rapid end. Otis on the ground as a War Department informed delegate, likely to keep fighting to force surrender rather than pause, even with signals of early peace. Waco notes County Commissioners may review salaries and expenses next week, testing the one fourth excess rule used under the Texas fee bill, with possible adjustments after office costs.
Washington May 6 news reports that the surrender of Aguinaldo is believed to be close at hand. The discussions center on peace terms that would save his honor, which unconditional surrender would not grant.

The Beethoven Maennerchor completed a new palatial bowling alley. About one hundred members attended a christening game. The double alley is 65 feet long with a 10 foot start and solid maple floors. An audience space and musician gallery are planned. L. P. Boetler supervised the project, donating services.
A party of Texas League officials including Dermody president of the League Hil president of the Austin club and Bailey president of the Houston club are expected in San Antonio this morning to review the state of affairs at the end of the season.
Deputy U S Internal Revenue Collector George E Bovee prepares for the July 1 start of the new fiscal year. He stocks blank special tax applications for tobacco whisky brokers bankers and others paying war taxes. With over a thousand dealers in his district and about 600 whisky and malt liquor dealers he expects a heavy workload as officials warn nonpayment by July 1 leads to prosecution. The Austin office under Chief Collector Webster Flannagan expands to handle the clerical surge, even taking over the grand jury room for extra space.
A large meeting of rep Methodist, Presbyterian and Christian Sunday schools convened in Sloan & Shelly's office to organize a general Sunday school picnic to San Marcos on the International and Great Northern road. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Y M C A held its regular monthly reception in Association Hall on Friday evening. A Mexican orchestra provided music between program numbers. Miss Julia Heusinger performed several piano pieces, Mrs. Virgil Gardner sang, Master Sam White delivered a recitation titled "A Tourist," and Miss Gilbert sang. The events are free to the public and occur each month.
A car load of white enameled iron beds priced from 2.50 to 25.00 was advertised by S. Wolfson.
Special bulletin from Dallas reports a bad storm near Gu thrie and Tom Bean with probable loss of lives. Wires down hinder details, severe damage centered near Wolf City Tom Bean Bonham and Honey Grove. A hail and wind storm moved north toward Indian Territory, destroying crops between Dallas and Fort Worth and also dropping hail between Dallas and Paris.
A Texas brewery develops a grain drying plant to convert excess mash into exportable dried grains. Otto Koehler and Otto Wahrmund spearhead the venture with Pauling and Harnischfeger equipment from Milwaukee. The system handles wet grains, dries them in three ovens, and sacks 160 pounds per bag for export, producing four and a half tons daily. The venture aims to popularize this fattening feed in Texas as it is in Europe.
Washington congressman Keller presided in Yale Hicks and Crenshaw's absence as Bowen bill to ally the United States with Great Britain is debated. Boynton of Colorado leads advocacy, followed by McCormick and Cox. Opponents include Trimble Heilbron Knox and McFarland, with Trimble opposing strongly.
