City License Inspector Pat Stevens faces two trials in Corpora tion court this week over occupation tax for Landa Ice agents and local ticket brokers. The Landa ice agent fights tax as an ice broker, while brokers contest the ordinance as illegal. Three firms of brokers are arrested and await trial with lawyers engaged.
J. E. Thomas, an accountant in the office of Super intendent Loyall, is promoted to chief clerk in the Birmingham Alabama division and will depart Asheville this week for new duties. His exact successor is not yet known. Thomas, a San Antonio native and Asheville resident, has held the post about two and a half years and is praised as an skilled accountant and a jovial, good fellow.
