After a district court hearing, a police and fire commission conference advised Chief Irvin to hire as many specials as possible. He then summoned several old officers, some agreed to return, others refused, insisting the mayor make formal request. Irvin pledged to reinstate all who report for duty.

Callaghan Signs First Warrant for District 2 Bonds

Mayor Callaghan signed the first warrant since taking office to pay semi annual interest on Improvement District No. 2 bonds. The $750 amount was drawn to cover the due payment dated the first of the month. The remarks note the new mayor faces a challenging path ahead.

Injunction Case Heard In San Antonio Court

In the Forty fifth district court yesterday an injunction hearing sought to restrain Mayor Callaghan and aldermen with J M Van Riper and Phil Wright from interfering with police and fire departments. Contempt cited in Kirby bribery case report

A committee appointed by Judge W L Brooks reported that writings reveal conduct by two professionals, John W Hornsby and W W Moore, possibly amounting to court contempt. They were cited to appear June 10 to show cause why licenses should not be suspended or revoked and why they should not be punished for contempt.

Three Men Struck By Lightning At Victoria Store

A severe Victoria storm on Thursday struck three men at McCabe's grocery in the east end. The men were senseless for a time. one man initially unlikely to recover but did. Mrs. Lente of West End was knocked senseless while at her phone. Several telephones were burned out.

Shooting in Houston Home Over Family Troubles

In Houston Texas on June 3 a family dispute led to a shotgun shooting at the home of Henry Williame a white man in the suburbs. His son in law Thomas Williams fired two loads of bird shot into him. At this time doctors have not determined if the wounded man can recover.

Postoffice Robbery near Anniston

The Alexandria post office near Anniston Alabama was robbed last night. Robbers took about $100 in money a quantity of stamps and a registered letter whose contents are unknown. They fled in a rubber tired vehicle leaving prints visible for a distance but the culprits have not been caught.

Japanese boats made in America

New York reports a San Francisco dispatch noting a Mason Smith Chace letter from Kobe in May stating American built submarines aided in destroying Russia's fleet under Rosestvensky. It describes Moccasin class boats and Chace's advisory role with Japan. Washington says peace may wait on further Manchurian actions as Japan seeks indemnity and territory.

Cotton Men to Inspect Texas for New Mills

A committee of eight eastern cotton manufacturers and machinery firms will tour Texas next week to inspect Del Rio and other locations for potential cotton mills.
