Waco Texas July 8 John Robinson nine years old son of D R Robinson a farmer five miles west of here committed death by own action today by taking strychnine used in doctoring yearlingsHe had been warned it would kill him and after taking it told his mother he wanted to die not giving a reason for his action. Her lived only a few minutes. Miss Louise Strohmeyer daughter of Mrs M Strohmeyer left for Guthrie Oklahoma to visit relatives for the rest of summer.

Austin July 8 The President has made a wise selection said General Webster Flanagan after noon in discussing Elihu Root's appointment as secretary of state. Flanagan praised Root as suited for the duties and noted Root has accepted the post. The move is expected to gain party support across the country.
Houston, Tex July 8 E D McKenzie of Houston president of the Texas State Stenographers association has called the annual meeting to be held in San Antonio August 4 and 5. He predicts unusually large attendance as the association has grown rapidly and influenced favorable legislation in the last session.
The Journal of Commerce reports from New York on July 8 that the national convention of Wholesale Grocers in Milwaukee on June 28 and 29 took decisive action. It states radical measures were approved against manufacturers who sell directly to retailers, vowing not to handle their goods unless they desist from such practices.
Auditor Beze said his actions were authorized by the city charter to ensure departments keep accurate accounts. Rumors that the mayor would assume control of police and fire departments were groundless. A large police presence remained at headquarters in response to the rumors.

New Iberia La July 8 Amos Holmes a Negro 19 years old was executed today for criminal assault on a white woman an employee at the Mc Ilhenny cannery on Avery Island. The crime was committed February 27 near the cannery. Holmes made many conflicting statements since conviction.

Ozen Desidere Spaniard living two miles from Campu La was fatally shot at his home after someone called for help amid heavy rain. He lit pine splinters to guide the visitor, exposing himself at the door when buckshot shattered his arm and struck his side. A second shot killed him within ten minutes.
