Colonel BW H R Green of Terrell Texas and guests from Dallas Kentucky and Denison arrived in San Antonio after attending the Tarpon club opening. The group led by Colonel Freen includes the Rev A B Reardon Mrs Buckner Mrs Schneider Mrs Mamie May Armstrong Miss Johnette Armstrong Mr A P Cary Mr W O Connor and others traveling in private cars.
Washington reports the Senate approved the bill to create a National military park at Vicksburg to honor the siege and campaign. The park, about 1,200 acres, will be managed by three commissioners chosen by the secretary of war with a historian as secretary, and duties include protecting monuments and preserving the battlefield.
Washington February 11 Genator Mc Enery dismisses slanderous New York reports declaring there was no agreement with anyone on federal patronage and that the whole story is a fairy tale. He asserts no one broached such a matter to him or by him to others.

Py Special Wire reports from Austin Texas that Governor Sayers granted a pardon to Julius Watson who had been convicted of manslaughter in Ellis county last month and sent to the penitentiary for two years for killing a man named Murry who had seduced Watsons wife. The pardon was issued immediately after the case was presented to the governor.
Gen Otis reports from Manila under Feb 11 note that MacArthur's division has reached a point to the north of the Pasig river.
Fort Worth February 11 Dr T W Powell a pioneer druggist aged seventy died in his room this morning cause given as heart failure due to a corroding condition. The report notes his long service and his standing in the community.
New York February 11 The Herald reports Admiral Dewey will not accept a presidential nomination. His friends say he has no appetite for politics and that his training and temperament suit him for nonpolitical life. Judge Brawley confirms a letter in which Dewey states he would never be a candidate and asks friends not to consider him.
Washington February 11 Major General Miles is gathering all reports and data for a court of inquiry to probe the beef scandal. The inquiry will determine who made contracts for beef and canned meats who inspected and received it and who is responsible if allegations by the commanding general are proven. The administration and General Eagan have stakes as the court could lead to General Miles relief but he approves its appointment.
Fort Worth February 11 Democratic primaries renominate W. M. Rea for city marshal G. H. Day for tax assessor and collector and W. B. Harrison for treasurer with weak voter turnout. Rea wins by 159 Day by 38 Harrison unopposed.
Probate court heard T H Koch apply for letters of administration in the estate of The resa Koch deceased Kendall county. The estate valued at about 2000. Deceased died December 6 1898 leaving two children Antonia Schuinecker and Henry Och.

Austin Feb 11 House committee on Federal relations reports favorably on a House concurrent resolution urging Texas members in Congress to support a constitutional amendment to limit federal judges to a maximum of ten years in office.
Rear Admiral Dewey is in excellent health, according to Commander E. B. Wood who has just returned from Manila. Wood assures authorities that rumors of Dewey's illness are incorrect and says every officer and man in the fleet likes the admiral and that the squadron is a happy one.
Governor Sayers sent telegram to the secretary of the navy asking permission for the Texas crew to visit the Texas capitol. A reply authorized Captain Sigsbee to visit Austin if practicable, with authorization to proceed as needed.
Norwich report says Slater cotton mill in Jewett City Griswold will stop producing cotton cloth due to southern competition. The mill with 500 workers and 20 spindles will be remodeled to yarn production.
Havana reports friction between Commodore Cromwell and Captain Sigsbee over the Maine graves ceremony on February 15. General Lee will oversee graves at Co on cemetery with banks of flowers after the sailors ceremony, as Sigsbee and Texans are kept away from the harbor to avoid humiliation.

He spent a day in hospital with doctors hopeful for recovery. He was noncommittal to reporters as relatives near arrival. He carried 21480 in cash and checks for a long trip to Cuba and the West Indies. Prolonged business strain left him temporarily insane.
