Samaritan Goes To Pen After Stabbing Case
Johnson City September 29 Interference in a private argument today cost 3 D Mitchell of Johnson City a five year sentence in the state penitentiary. Mitchell pleaded guilty before District Judge Raymond Gray to involuntary manslaughter charges in the stabbing death December 12 1940 of Lonnie Edge brother of Sheriff St Edge of Kendall County. Testimony showed Lonnie Edge and W Young of Johnson City met on Highway 231 south of Johnson City the night of the killing. Lonnie Edge and Young argued over an old debt. Mitchell, son in law of Young and a resident of the Young estate, admitted he joined the quarrel and stood by as Lonnie Edge was stabbed in the neck with a pocket knife and bled to death before aid could come. District Attorney Carlos Ashley of Tang prosecuted Young.
