The Ringling Brothers and Herman and Haitty circuses performed in San Antonio to full houses after arriving Monday. The big top offered a full list of acts, drawing crowds despite crowded parking and muddy conditions as the city woke to the spectacle.
Polished performers held thousands in a breathless amaze as mothers sheltered babies and spectators debated the spectacle. Acrobats, clowns, animals, and a human projectile emerged from a 24 inch rim to dazzle the audience, praised as top tier entertainment. Public notices hint at schools and colleges in classified listings.
Los Angeles reports film director Neilan denies new divorce allegations by Blanche Sweet. Sweet claims cruelty with over twenty incidents, noting Neilan humiliated her before guests and invited disreputable people to their home. She seeks divorce as Frieda prepares to respond.
Chicago reads a curious court scene as Charles Penikoff, upset by being called a shill and an abill, complains three weeks later to Judge Tride. New Orleans LA September 24. The Attorney General said an injunction to block payment of salaries to lawmakers for non legislative services will be filed in district court within days. Percy Sait announced.
Miss Nuretta Evans, 17, of S05 Pleasanton Road, sustained a broken right leg and a broken collarbone plus other injuries when the truck she rode overturned at South Flores Street and Heatley Tracks early Tuesday. Driver Willie Evans, 808 Pleasanton Road, and Marvin Autry, 17, of OLS Unarding Boulevard, were not seriously hurt. They received first aid at Robert B. Green Hospital and were dismissed.
Former heavyweight champion James J. Tunney filed an answer and counterclaim in Bridgeport Superior Court to a $500,000 alienation of affections suit brought by John S. Fogarty of Fort Worth. He denies the charges in twelve words and seeks $160,000 damages alleging Fogarty and his former wife conspired to defame him. Tunney and his wife Polly Lauder remain at the Isle of Capri in Italy. no return date set, trial not expected before October.
The San Antonio Parent-Teacher association council will hold a luncheon and business meeting at Brackenridge High School on Friday. EB A of March will speak, and H W Hadley SA superintendent will address. A membership drive is under way for Brackenridge P T A. Officers listed include Mrs J E Crewes president and Mrs Patrick Henry treasurer.
