German Officer Feared Americans Would Kill Him
A captured German officer near Pont-a-Mousson feared surrender, later learning Americans would not kill him. Other prisoners described German retreat moves as American artillery barrage halted planned attacks. A Hungarian officer from the 350th Austrian division pleaded not to be with German officers. A Budapest mutiny story and line-strength claims followed before a Chicago burglar standoff where detectives captured the shooter.
