Conference Grid Squads Begin 1932 Football Drills
Across the Southwest, Arkansas Texas A&M Baylor SMU TCU Rice and Texas teams opened training camps. Arkansas reported 38 players in pads with Tom Murphy held from contact due to kidney ailment while Red Johnson twisted a knee. Aggies, under Madison Bell, touted best prospects since 1929 with captains Aston Domingue Majone leading workouts. Baylor’s staff under Morley Jennings began light drills as returning lettermen paced the session. SMU prepared with two-a-day plans as Coach Morrison supervised a light morning drill. TCU started with 34 uniforms, adjusting for missing players and evaluating quarterback calls as Schmidt plans likely Pruitt to signal plays. Rice, led by Jack Meagher, opened with conditioning, kicking, and punting as weightier workouts loom. Austin College and other Texas programs also kicked off with varied rosters and early assessments of players for roles.
