Charter Shift Fight Opens Campaign to Defeat Amendments
The Telephone Userz association launched a campaign against three proposed city charter amendments set for a September 17 vote. At a Monday courthouse meeting, organizers urged electors to vote down the measures and plan to field supervisors on election day. A Thursday night talk by Frederick Felly will oppose the amendments on KTSA at 4:45 p.m. The group calls the amendments a subterfuge to block further changes for two years while Raymond Gerhardt argues the city could bypass reforms via restatements and existing powers without charter changes.
