Missing Day Seen In Chicago Drives Prohibition Search

Col. Raymond Robins, a leading prohibition and peace advocate, was reportedly seen in Chicago yesterday by a friend who knew him from his former residence. Mitchell said special prohibition bureau investigators were deployed to probe a possible gang kidnapping but found no substantiating evidence. Hoover and cabinet members discussed the case while agencies coordinated efforts. W H Moran said preliminary New York studies showed Robins left his club planning to visit Washington. Amos W Woodcock stated all 188 prohibition agents had orders to join the search. Mrs Robins’s Maine statement raised fears of kidnapping or killing by Florida bootleggers, spurring inquiries in New York and Washington. Dr Pred B Smith, a close friend, doubted the threats, calling Robins a lone wolf who investigates alone.
