Cook County payroll slim threatens IOU pay for workers
Chicago September 5 County Treasurer George F Harding calls the financial position extremely discouraging. He warns that about 125000 dollars may remain in the corporate fund against a 400000 payroll for 4000 employees due September 20. If needed most workers including department heads judges and clerical staff would be paid with IOUs redeemable when funds appear.
