In district court of Bexar County a summons issues for Newton Meadows to answer Sarah A. Meadows petition filed December 20 1884. The case seeks dissolution of marriage and custody of two children Garrold 10 and Louisa 8, with mandated four week newspaper publication.

The Republican Executive Committee for the Tenth Congressional District of Texas issues a call for a convention to nominate a candidate for Congress in 1884. Mass meetings with delegates from counties including Bexar, Travis, Gillespie and others will occur August 30, 1884, with the main convention in San Antonio on September 10, 1884. Delegates are apportioned by votes for Davis in 1882, with proxies not recognized. Grover Pascnal chairs the committee. date August 15, 1884.
