Texas Banking Probe Expands After Carrizo Springs Bank Closure
U S Representative Gonzalez announced a wide ranging probe into a string of Texas bank failures prompted by the Citizens State Bank closing in Carrizo Springs last summer. Hearings are tentatively set for November as investigators from the Banking and Currency Committee and a federal grand jury in San Antonio pursue causes and the broader pattern of failures across the state. The inquiry follows FDIC tallies showing Texas housing a disproportionate share of failures from 1969 to 1876 and targets the chain of events leading to these bank collapses.
