New Railroad Tariff 2 B Potentially Delayed
Austin news notes that unless a postponement is granted by the Interstate Commerce Commission, tariff 2-B railroad rates will take effect November 1. The Texas hearing on October 19 failed to alter the commission’s decision to proceed. Traffic officials plan to adjust operations so 32 small Texas lines use state rates while others follow tariff 2-B. Some commodities may carry up to 100 percent higher costs, particularly coal and lignite. The 32 small lines are barred from tariff 2-B by Judge Calhoun’s injunction and must use Texas rates.
