Centeno gas tax faces tough approval in Texas Legislature
Don Ray, assistant State comptroller for legal services, warned in San Antonio that Texgo Legislature chances for the Centeno plan to impose a three cent per 1000 cubic feet tax on natural gas are very slim. He said the tax could raise costs for industrial users, triggering strong opposition and lobbying in Austin. The plan aims to raise about 260 million dollars initially to fund supplier reimbursements by covering the difference between gas cost and residential prices. Currently the price is about 1.90 per 1000 cubic feet, with residential customers set to pay roughly 1 per 1000 cubic feet under the proposal.
