Texas Poll Finds Texas Wets and Drys Nearly Split
The Texas Poll shows a near tie for a statewide prohibition vote with 47 percent likely to vote wet and 53 percent dry among all Texans over 21 including those not taxed. Men tilt wets, women tilt dry, yet both groups agree drinking is rising or falling at similar rates. Veterans favor wet 72 to 28, matching February 1942 results, and Texas history shows a long arc from early amendments to prohibition to 3.2 beer and local option liquors.
