Walkout Hits Shipyard Workers In Kearny NJ
About 2000 workers left the Federal Shipbuilding yard in Kearny across two night shifts with a large portion of the second shift still away. Company officials said production lagged as night workers lined up with the day shift. Leaders claimed the walkout followed the dismissal of five shop stewards, and union officials sought a Senate inquiry into yard conditions.
