Retirements Spark Honors For Long Service At Brooke Army Med Ctr
The ceremony honors Loiis M. Morgan and James Kramer Jr. for a combined 69 years of active duty. Morgan, a personnel sergeant, served in Korea, France, Vietnam, Taiwan, and the Pacific Theater in World War II. Kramer, after basic training in 83, joined the Army Band in France, Germany, Japan, and Italy, later leading the 323d Army Band and serving as First sergeant. Also, Capt. Patricia Sloane receives the Air Force Commendation Medal for service since 1968 and plans civilian life in Mexico. Sgt. J. C. Edmundo Torres earns the Bronze Star for a 1966 Vietnam tour, with other decorations noted. Lieutenant Colonel Don E. Brown is recognized with the Meritorious Service Medal for work at Ft. Bliss. Col. William Manelos is named chief of staff for Air Force Security Service at Kelly AFB, succeeding Col. James H. Macia Jr. Oct. 1.

Yule Comes Year Late in Reedley Theft Case
In Reedley California a 1933 car stolen December 6 containing Christmas gifts was found abandoned with the trunk still locked. Police recovered the key and opened the trunk to reveal gifts and toys untouched despite 10,000 tills. The toys were gathered for repair by Miramonte Conservation Camp inmates for the Rogers children and friends, now set for delivery next year.

Spaghetti Challenge from Cheese-Eating Champion
John Lombine, 20, renowned for a world cheese-eating record, now aims to topple the spaghetti limit by eating at least 2.2 pounds in one hour. He challenges Tom Cresci of San Diego, holder of 2.1 pounds in two hours, to a side-by-side cut-off. Lombine also claims the unlimited prune-eating record of 266 pits in 40 minutes and notes Utah’s central location in the western U.S.
