Five-Cent Car Fare Fixed by Commission in San Antonio
The San Antonio city commission adopted an ordinance denying the traction department of the Public Service Corporation a six cent fare or transfer elimination. A violation would be a misdemeanor and could forfeit the franchise. The decision ends the petition for higher fares, leaving court as the company’s possible recourse. The franchise set five cents for a continuous ride with one transfer. The commission found an increase unwarranted at this time and warned that service must improve or the franchise could be forfeited.
