Army to Get Benefit of Meat Increase
Government food authorities report heavy increases in U S meat production but no higher rations for households. War Meat Board figures show 1 percent rise week ending Sept 16 and 18 percent year over year, as government purchases for military and lend lease stockpiles surge. An OPA spokesman notes October buys will nearly double September levels, with 394 million pounds processed the week ending Sept 23 versus 268 million a year ago, as peak production drives warehoused stock while lean periods shift output to civilian channels.
