New Stamp On 1st Flight
Carrying the first air mail bearing the new stamps, a specially equipped aircraft left Lockheed air terminal soon after midnight en route to Boston. The service stops at several cities including El Paso Fort Worth Dallas Little Rock Nashville and New York. Postal officials sorted and canceled mail in flight on the new route.

The OPA raised growers' prices on oranges today but said consumer costs should not rise. The agency increased Latinia oranges 12 cents for a 73 pound container while Florida oranges rose 6 cents for a 50 pound container.

Meat Seizure Threat Emerges Over Hunger Fears
WASHINGTON Oct 1 officials warned of a possible government seizure of livestock to curb the meat shortage. Secretary Clinton P. Anderson said such action was a very real danger as he announced that meat would stay on the scarce list while canned fruits and other items were removed from price controls.
