The Old Temporary Capitol in Avelle Texas narrowly escaped total destruction from a fire started by a defective flue. The third story was gutted and the second partially damaged, with estimated losses around six thousand dollars. Firefighters were injured. the building housed state officials during construction of the present capitol.
