Educational Program For C C C Camps

President Roosevelt is expected to approve an educational program for the civilian conservation corps to be carried out under camp commanders with the cooperation of the U.S. Office of Education. Hundreds of camps already offer schooling during off hours, and the plan would extend facilities to some 1400 camps, giving every enlistee access to additional education. The CCC, praised as a key New Deal agency, employs over 200,000 to protect forests, reduce unemployment, and support families, with expanded schooling seen as a path to further outside work when jobs arise. Government agencies and Congress are urged to back this initiative as part of national recovery efforts.
