Torrance's Stand Cited In Defense of Accused Bride Murder
In Monterrey Mexico the defense staff for Ariburi Torrance released a statement disputing the state's charge that the self-styled author and explorer killed his wealthy bride Ada G. Lavelant in a car crash. They argued the car left the highway and rolled on its side, not overturned, and insisted witnesses did not witness inhumane treatment. They noted a Spanish term used by witnesses could mean drag or carry. Police said the car traveled at about 62 miles per hour, enough to throw Mrs Ward and kill her, while the defense argued the victim was only about 10 inches high and not capable of fatally injuring him.
