U S Lacking in Airplanes To Defend Important Centers
Major General James E Fechet argues in Aviation Progress that the United States faces vulnerability to air attack from carriers or foreign bases. He lists key urban and industrial targets such as New York Philadelphia Baltimore Detroit Cleveland and Pittsburgh. He notes deficiencies in home defense aircraft and training, detailing bomber and interceptor counts, base locations, and the need for rapid expansion of air power to deter enemy fleets and protect transportation and manufacturing hubs.
