Street hazards from overgrown shrubs and objects blocking views at intersections prompt San Antonio traffic police action. Sgt. W A Huston leads inspections, has ordered removals, and is engaging residents and business owners to address additional hazards.
Two negro men Hayes White and Henry Vance were arrested by railroad detectives near Beloit Wisconsin at 4 am as they tampered with spikes on rails along the path of President Hoover's special train. They carried a pinch bar and were held at Beloit police station for questioning.
Biamere twins born to Mrs Sophia Daqee at 1258 West Travin Street died minutes after birth in Los Angeles. They were delivered at Robert B. Green Hospital early Saturday.
In New York City Roosevelt and former Governor Alfred E. Smith urged election of a Democratic president and state ticket. At Brooklyn Academy of Music they critiqued a “campaign of fear” and praised honesty and fact over sensationalism. They head to Madison Square Garden for a party rally as the campaign intensifies with daily speeches.
President Hoover travels en route to St Paul and California for campaign speeches after accusing Democrats of avoidance on prohibition. He plans stops in Wisconsin Minnesota Nevada and Salt Lake City, with a St Louis address and a focus on Dawes era banking issues and wartime debt moratorium.
A broad group of major business leaders and bankers endorse Governor Roosevelt, arguing Hoover's record shows failed leadership amid a deep economic decline. They criticize the Hawley Smoot tariff and call for a national manager change to restore prosperity, citing declines in industrial production and farm prices and predicting lower profits in 1932.
The Rev Dave Greathouge 41 a carpenter evangelist and Mrs Sophie Wilken an evangelistic worker were shot in the front yard near their home while heading to a mission site. Wilken, the estranged husband, was arrested after admitting he fired after discovering them leaving. He said he shot his wife first and then the man. Both victims were hospitalized with non fatal injuries. A pistol was found on Wilken and he agreed to a police statement. The two planned to found an international mission near the home site.
