Chinese theater drama unfolds amid wire barrier and garden scene
An account of a Cantonese theater in which the audience, the cast, and even the Chinese orchestra perform under tight wartime restrictions. The stage uses improvised setups of tables and chairs to simulate interiors, with a student romance and garden intrigue driving a two act sequence. The observer notes on audience reactions, stagecraft by Aw Wei and the Mandarin's party, and the wartime atmosphere shaping the performance.
