Industrial output declines ease in October report
Washington November 3 The department of commerce said October showed a slower fall in industrial production than August and September. Available distribution indices fell to near seasonal norms despite higher purchasing power with prices rising. Real income remained well above early year levels and a year ago. Output declines hit most major industries except food products. Retail sales did not rise with August gains and freight car loadings lagged seasonal trends. Over 400,000 workers returned to work in September with employment up 4.4 percent and payrolls by 3.4 percent. Financial markets remained irregular with loans rising while secured credit fell.

Labor finds proof shore pin futile in Swope plan clash
Washington November 2 Labor claimed to have found proof that the Swope plan to create a national semi governmental organization to administer codes cannot solve industry questions. National Association of Manufacturers president Robert K Lind warned such a body could not logically handle the issues. Swope released a resolution backed by the commerce department business advisory council praising recent industrial activity while urging continued support to reduce unemployment and raise purchasing power. The council warned against governmental interference and Control. Union labor opposed the plan, with little appetite for change beyond enlarging current recovery efforts. Recovery chief Hugh S Johnson had said Ford violation matters would be referred to the attorney general.
