Good Roads Amendment Leads Texas Ballot Proposals
Voters in Texas decide on several constitution amendments in the general election. The Good Roads amendment aims to freeze gas line taxes for road use with one cent to schools and three cents split among counties, districts, and state funds to build a permanent road system. It seeks to prevent raids on highway funds and fund long range construction. Additional measures include a $75,000 appropriation for John Tarleton College construction and a state employee retirement plan funded by mutual contributions.

Mirror of Your Mind by Lawrence Gould
Lawrence Gould discusses dream therapy and sleeping aids as safety valves for inner tensions. He notes drugged sleep is sometimes needed in crises but not ideal long term. He argues love can outgrow youthful romance if consent and choice are genuine, and hypnosis offers only temporary relief for alcoholism with repeated, diminishing effects.

Truman picks TVA figure to steer atomic era policy
Washington observers note President Truman’s choice to head the atomic program blends a Tennessee Valley Authority administrator with a banker and a newspaperman on the commission, sparking debate over leftist leanings versus practical governance. Critics worry the panel signals a socialistic tilt while supporters cite the need for expertise across finance publicity and physics to manage government developed energy and industrial controls. The appointment aims to balance political intent with technical and financial oversight as energy policy and private industry interact.
