In arrears the charity warned of legal action

A harsh note warns that overdue back subscriptions will trigger legal steps. The message says the miscreants cannot rub it in, insisting payment is required or the law will take its course.

Fire at Bingville School Feared To Dwindle by Water Pails

A mock town dispatch recounts a near disaster at Bingville's schoolhouse when a coal stove overheated amid a cold night. Jed Peters and students helped raise the alarm as fire trucks and townsfolk scrambled for water pails from the hall basement, a mislaid key complicating the response. The crew improvised, water traveled by successive pails from a deep spring, and no serious injury or blaze ultimately occurred.

Jabez Refuses to Sign Registered Letter at Post Office

Two weeks ago a registered letter for Jabez Simpson arrived at Hingville post office. Postmaster Eph Higging insisted he must sign to receive it, but Jabez refused citing a prior note he paid off years ago.
