Washington May 30 After July 1 new designs will be minted for dimes quarters and half dollars marking the first change since 1891. The half dollar shows Liberty with an American flag while the dime and quarter portray Liberty and protective symbolism. Designers Adolph Weinman and Herman MacNeil are noted sculptors. The dime faces Liberty with a winged cap and the reverse shows bundles of rods and an axe symbolizing unity. The quarter emphasizes national protection with Liberty bearing a shield and olive branch. Both the half dollar and the quarter include In God We Trust. The eagle on the half dollar stands atop a crag with a sapling pine nearby. The 1916 date appears on the quarter.
