Chief Bishop and the city fire department chased a false alarm from box 47 at Lexington avenue and Augusta street. Bishop arrived first in his car but found no fire. Later fire wagons arrived, disturbing residents and signaling a costly unnecessary mobilization.

Fire discovered at 3:35 am caused about 200 dollars damage to a single story frame structure in the rear of 15 Bowie street. L. R. Stevens owns the building occupied by a negro family. Neighbors saved the contents by quick removal of furniture and fixtures. Origin under investigation by Fire Chief Bishop. Roof entirely burned.

More than 3000 people attended the Decoration Day ceremonies at the National Cemetery honoring soldier Giead. Organizations from Fort Sam Houston, Grand Army of the Republic, United Spanish War Veterans, Women's Relief Corps, and local troops led the service with prayers, speeches by J O Terrell, and a grave decoration procession. The event featured the Tenth Infantry Band, a guard of honor, and a national salute with taps.

The body was prepared for burial and will be taken to her old home in Michigan for interment.
