In St Louis Kennedy and Hadden of Shreveport La won the men s pair championship semi final. They beat the field with stout defense to defeat South s six heart contract. The bid showing a six heart slam followed by trumps drawn in three pulls and the ace of spades led by Kennedy.
In a late deal Hadden held nine of clubs and followed with three as South faced a choice. Believing the right opponent wouldn’t duck the ace, South led a club to dislodge the ace. West won with the queen and South could not avoid another tap trick, going down. East and West posted one of the top scores on the deal.
