A local retailer advertises a vast stock of cotton ging hams seersuckers linen toile du nord and a completed parlour boot and shoe department all at prices lower than ever. Menswear furnishing goods and hats are full with unsurpassed style and quality and the store promises not to be undersold. Brussells and grain carpeting offered at New York cost. customers urged to call and see.
Coroner's inquest heard testimony about Boone Moore's fatal confrontation with Officers Westmoreland and Doebler near the Western Star saloon. Witnesses described Moore drawing a knife and throwing a rock as the officers pursued him after he resisted arrest for vagrancy. The inquiry adjourned for further testimony, with relatives planning a possible prosecution.
Rumor says Mayor J H French will run for District Clerk currently held by Theo Baldus. Baldus reportedly does not seek re election, planning to leave San Antonio to return to business pursuits elsewhere.
Tomorrow being Decoration Day the public class review scheduled for 9 a.m. has been postponed to 1 to 5 p.m. to allow participants to join the day’s celebration.
The Liaur and allies propose moving the Eighth cavalry band to play after Sand 6 p m on Wednesdays to avoid the extreme heat at the existing time, claiming it would give greater pleasure and attract more spectators, especially benefiting ladies.
The funeral for Fergus O C Robinson occurred yesterday at 10 am from his residence below town in San Jose mission. It drew a large crowd despite expectations of a 3 pm service. Robinson was described as a good man and useful citizen. He left a very large estate with J P Newcomb having letters of administration. A will is said to be pending probate.
A sprawling telegraphic roundup covers the Greenbackers gathering in Indianapolis with remarks by Mrs. Augusta Bristol and Miss Frances Willard on suffrage. James B. Weaver is named for president, with a large slate of officers elected. The meeting includes notes on party unity, proposed platforms, and church leadership developments.
At the Baptist church last night the annual June conference of that church took place. After preaching by the Rev. W. G. Tynes of Colorado City, the session considered the resignation of the school superintendent and accepted Dr. Carroll’s call.

The Good Templars lodge, once unable to reorganize under the old charter, now has a charter. A. H. Latimer, a leading temperance lecturer, will visit Friday and Saturday to lecture and institute the lodge. Lectures to be held at Cumberland Presbyterian church Friday and Trinity M. E. church Saturday. all supporters urged to attend. A mule incident caused a street disruption as a candy stand toppled near a lamp post on Dolorosa street, leaving the mule owner to compensate the vendor for the losses.

A letter from Las Minas de Zammbahuacan dated May 18 1834 informs Mayor J H French of Joseph Millers death near the Mexican village after a long illness. The writer recounts duties to Miller, his limited effects, and his wish to reach a German doctor with help from Sam of St Louis. The missive notes Miller had a brother Frank Miller in Texas and names business associates of the writer.
J A Huggins a 43 year old painter from Jeffersonville Ind killed himself with a large calibre pistol in his room at 319 Pecan Street near Avenue C. Notes found on him mention family forgiveness and arrangements were made by the Knights of Pythias to bury him locally. The coroner’s inquest heard from his landlady Mrs Amy Wood roommate James Giles and friend C F King.
In a brisk session, John Wood’s beating case continued while Bettie Dennison pleaded guilty to vagrancy and paid five dollars. Mike Flannagan, Signor Chrysler, John Baker, Charles Johnson, Fermin Ortiz, J. Campbell, J. Culbertson, and C Maria all faced five dollar fines for drunkenness or related offenses. Dan Curran’s jury case was postponed to June 5. A Baltimore Sun note comments on New York factions the Stalwarts and Halfbreeds, their Chicago delegate fight, and possible realignments around Blaine or Grant.
