Molotov Talks Hit Paris Diplomacy Amid U.S. Pitch for Peace
Washington reports debate over Molotov’s charge that Britain and the United States press for a peace plan aimed at Soviet restraint. Byrnes defended the Paris conference stance while officials noted persistent American-British differences. Molotov reiterated Russia’s firm position, saying any “offensive for peace” may be used to push a Western will on others. Some observers doubt a collapse of the Paris talks, citing only reaffirmation of Moscow’s terms and no imminent concessions.
