Senate Passes Wolff Constitutional Convention Plan In Texas

The Texas Senate approved Rep. Nelson Wolff HSR 61 to call a constitutional convention with all 181 legislators to convene in January 1974 and decide on a new state constitution or revisions by May. Gov. and party leaders will guide the process, with Lt. Gov. presiding. The vote was 25 to 41.

Three Men Sentenced in Midland Case Mix of Crimes

In Midland Texas three men were recently sentenced with ironic outcomes. One accused of embezzling a sum misread as $1 was given a lenient sentence. Another convicted of murder without malice received no probation. The third, charged with stealing a few dimes and quarters from a laundryman, drew three years in the penitentiary without probation.
