Mrs Rutledge Denies Chasing Hartman Trial Testimony
In Cedar Rapids Iowa on May 26 23 year old Sydney Rutledge denied claims that Byron Hartman forced intimacy occurred after a July date. She testified Hartman pursued her even as co workers described her as on good terms with him through August. The defense contends Rutledge sought to end the affair amid a fatal struggle with Hartman in a Cedar Rapids hotel last December 14 and faces the death penalty if convicted. The Hartman family urged sparing the defendant. The nine man three woman jury weighs the case as county officials consider sentencing options.
