Textbooks in San Antonio are being packed for return to the state education division storehouses in Austin. Each year a portion of the books goes back to headquarters after circulating locally, with about one twentieth of the titles returning.
San Antonio schools prepare to replace 20,000 books with new texts and transfers from other sources. Noel E Phil Ups, storekeeper, says the rest of the 420,000 hands is covered by state funds. Books are delivered in burlap bags to the railroad for distribution.
Three people suffered minor injuries in separate Los Angeles street collisions on Friday. Pablo Vazquez, 70, at 143 Grenet Street, was bruised when struck by a car reportedly driven by Burkhart of 101 Edemonus street. A bicycle collision at Goliad and Santa Clare streets left Fernando Gonzales, 12, of 108 Myde Street with an arm injury. driver Frank Gunn, 31, of Kansas Street, was identified by police. Mrs Francisca Padilic, 58, of 1213 San Patricio Street, was bruised when the car she rode in was struck by Bennie Barne of 704 West Martin Street.
In Biggleswade England on May 28 Mr and Mrs F Milton returning home found their roof gone. Workmen demolishing condemned cottages in the same street had stripped port theirs by mistake.
New York World’s Fair showcases timeless works by Raphael Titian Rembrandt Vermeer Watteau Gainsborough and Reynolds. The article notes a display of major 18th and earlier masters as part of the fair’s art program.

Nine members of the Hotel Greeters association of Mexico were en route to the international convention in Beattle from June 21 to 28. The delegation stayed at the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio Thursday night and planned a stop in Austin to call on Governor W. Lee O'Daniel. Lopez Magdalena S de Perez Blanco Gayou and Carlos Violante all from Mexico City.
Four Toronto mothers known as the stock derby heirs shared nearly 500000 after lawyer Charles Vance Millar died in 1926. Each received about 125000 and say the money brought happiness and security. Mrs Timlick bought a home for her large family and several sons opened a hamburger stand. Mrs Nagle spoke of prudent use and music lessons for children. MacLean's lawyers manage assets while Annie Smith declined to discuss details.
London dispatch reports Ambassador Kennedy’s take on British menswear with a tailor’s quip about coat fit. the man complains of tight under the arms, while the tailor insists coats are designed that way and clarifies he means pants. W. E. Daniels, indicted by the March federal grand jury for impersonating an officer, was returned from Louisiana state penitentiary to await trial. In New York on May 1, Secretary Hopkins outlined a plan to increase U S imports. He said the Commerce Department would organize a group of specialists to explore how to raise imports without harming domestic industries. He urged broad efforts in Latin America to develop industrial raw materials like rubber, manganese, hardwoods, and tin.
WABILINGTON May 25 The state appropriations committee today cut 50 million dollars from flood control and rivers and harbors projects. The measure, approved finally by the Senate committee, totals 265.19 million dollars, below the budget bureau’s recommendation.
