South Texas utilities fare better on energy issue
Amid San Antonio's energy shortage, Central Power & Light and Medina Electric Cooperative report no immediate supply problems for 9,500 customers across 17 counties. Both renegotiated Coastal States Gas Producing Co. contracts, with Medina relying on spot gas and fuel oil while CP&L negotiates fuel oil assurances. Coastal States curbed Medina's gas by 35 percent. CP&L faces gas curtailments but gains fuel oil as needed. Houston reports food prices up 3 percent over Q1 and 11.1 percent for the year, while San Antonio's gas supply remains constrained and CPSB plans voluntary electricity cutbacks with only 10 days of fuel oil on hand.
