New York May 3 Volstead a 14 year old camel in Central Park is reported dead. The camel’s owner Mrs Volstead had long cared for the animal and children formed a strong bond with the beast. Attendants say Velstead refused to drink water and showed distress after the birth of its offspring. A veterinary exam indicated illness but details remain unclear.
San Antonio may conduct a reenumeration with federal supervision after Mayor C M Chambers announced the plan. City would coordinate with federal officials and, if feasible, perform a new census of residents.
Gordon Stewart Northcutt, 22, on death row at San Quentin for Riverside County chicken slayer, was treated for acute appendicitis in the prison hospital. Doctors warned an operation might save his life, but he declined. He has been imprisoned since February 1920 and previously suffered an appendicitis attack in August 1920.
In Florence on May 23 crowds gathered before the Neptune monument in Signorio Square to remember the renowned monk Savonarola. A small tablet at the monument records his execution on May 23, 1498.

Waco May 23. Two prisoners who escaped from the McKennan county Jail on the third floor were recaptured about an hour later.
In Austin on May 23 the Texas Supreme Court ruled former Governor James E. Ferguson cannot appear on the Democratic primary ballot after a 1924 amnesty law. The court found the amnesty provision violated the state constitution and is invalid. Ferguson had sought to force the party committee to place his name on the governor ballot.
