Kerrville Bus Co. reports five intercity drivers with exceptional safety records. Bill Anaid won first in the 1948 National Public Safety contest with 2,000 miles noted as safe driving. R. E. Foy placed second, 86,500 safe miles recorded. Cled Woolridgen third, Bill Jones fourth, Glenn Young fifth as top finishers.
A 35 member women’s auxiliary formed at the County Agriculture building to support the new Dimmit County hospital. Mrs. Alice Vander Zee presided, with Mrs. A P Johnson as president and officers including Mrs. R H Williams, Mrs. J W Tribble, J C Colkers, Mrs. Richard Mills, Mrs. John Stahl, and Mrs. Clyde Burton. The group aims to meet monthly and the hospital is expected to open July 1. Mrs. Vander Zee outlined duties. Mrs. Goldi Saunders spoke of wartime Gray Lady service and its impact on patients.
Seguin earned a Safety Association plaque after being one of 19 cities with populations over 10,000 to report no traffic fatalities in 1948. Mayor Roger W Moore announced the recognition, noting the city’s achievement.
