Businessman Eloy Centeno Named to Texas Industrial Commission
San Antonio supermarket owner Eloy Centeno has been named to the nine member Texas Industrial Commission by Gov Dolph Briscoe replacing Warren Woodward. Centeno a City Public Service Board trustee since 1970 will serve until February 15 1979. He says the panel will focus on industrial development in Southwest Texas where skilled labor is scarce and plans include attracting big companies and expanding vocational training. He notes the commission has limited funds and will push for state funding to build industries and schools in the region.

Syrian's Appeal Set for Fifth Circuit Fall Session
A former Syrian Army officer Mamdouh Barbour, 42, will be the first appeal in the fall term of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, with proceedings to start in late September or October. He was arrested last May on illegal entry charges after leaving Syria with about $130,000 in cash and checks, money his relatives say funded his escape. The Syrian government has a warrant accusing him of fleeing with $458,909 in military funds. Great Bear Lake in Canada's Northwest Territories covers about 42,000 square miles.
