Tornado Outbreak Causes Minor Base Damage and City Destruction
A second tornado spotted in Brackenridge Park joined a path of destruction along a half mile south of downtown. Roofs were ripped from a GCA facility and a trailer, with two buildings partially collapsing. Trees uprooted near the city cemetery and at InterContinental Motors. The storm damaged South Flores Street and Keller in San Antonio, then tracked near HemisFair Plaza and Friedrich Air Conditioning. Children at St Monica School remained safe as staff escorted them to the church. Barricades limited high water crossings and flooding was minimal. The forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of more showers and thunder showers through Saturday night.
